Snapshot of our Autumn learning

Nursery and Reception have been reading lots of texts to inspire their learning about the seasons including 'Owl Babies', 'Hovis the Hedgehog',  'Little Red Hen' and 'Oliver's Vegetables'.  They have also been exploring how unique they are in our marvellous me topic and discovering different traditions and religions from Bonfire Night to Diwali and Christmas.

Nursery and Reception have been learning about polar bears and penguins and the first explorers to the Arctic.  By reading stories such as 'Jack Frost' and 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' the children have researched seasonal changes, environmental issues and how to be more Eco friendly which has been explored through junk modelling, Science experiments with ice and they have created some wonderful paintings and collages.

Snapshot of our learning in Autumn Cycle B

In Years 3 and 4, we’ve enjoyed a wide range of exciting and hands-on learning experiences! We explored creativity through computer animations and a parent workshop where we made Christmas cushions. Our visit to the Heart of England was a highlight, as we learned about seasonal food, honed our peeling and chopping skills, and cooked soup in the forest. Maths lessons came alive as we investigated place value using manipulatives, while a trip to Pizza Express gave us the chance to make our own pizzas. Staying healthy was a focus when we made smoothies with smoothie bikes and discussed balanced diets. We also celebrated diversity with a vibrant Diwali dance workshop. In English, we read about the fascinating Wiri Wiri and turned our learning into delicious lime cookies, following the instructions we wrote ourselves.Additionally, we explored local historical resources to investigate how our area has changed over time, deepening our understanding of history and community. It’s been a fantastic term of learning, fun, and creativity!

This spring, the children loved our History topic. We investigated if the Romans really did impact Britain. We used a range of enquiries and visited the Roman Museum in Alcester. When we visited the Heart of England Forest we learnt about food webs and animal teeth. We then moved our learning to States of Matter in Science.  We joined a live session using Lyfta and explored a remote Island in the Caribbean - We learnt about the biodiversity of the Island and how people can work alongside the animals and plants to enrich their environments.
