GOLD School Games Award 2017/18

The School Games Mark is a Government led award that focuses on recognising schools who show commitment to physical competitions across the school and the wider community.

At Henley, our sports provision is excellent, with Mrs Holden and Ben leading PE lessons across the school and hosting before and after school sports clubs. Children from a range of year groups also have the opportunity to attend competitions, both those within school and with other schools across our cluster. These competitions cover a wide range of sports, including cricket, athletics, triathlon, and football.

Well done Mrs Holden and thank you

Sports – New record set!

Hockey

Children from Years 4-6 took part in an inter-school Quicksticks hockey tournament on Tuesday 25th April. Then children played brilliantly, scoring lots of goals and even battling on in hail and wind!

After winning 4 matches and losing 2, we came 3rd overall! Well done to everyone who took part!

Swimming

Children from Years 4-6 took part in a swimming gala at Stratford on Wednesday 5th April. They all  swam brilliantly with some children progressing to the individual finals on Saturday 6th May. Joseph Webb, Darcey Clinnick, Seth and Molly Vondrak took part with special mention to Molly who set a new record for the Girls Butterfly, fantastic achievement!

Quad Kids

On the 10th May at Stratford High School, 17 Henley children took part in a ‘Quad Kids’ competition, where they took part in a long jump, a howler throw, a sprint and a long distance run. The children performed amazingly and did Henley proud!

We came 1st in Year 5/6 competition and 2nd in Year 3/4. We narrowly missed out on progressing through to the next round.

WELL DONE TEAM HENLEY !

Edi Okoro Team GB Athlete and Para Olympian Mrs Horrocks visit Henley

Ederin Okoro Team GB hurdler visit on Wednesday 6th July. Edi was an inspiration, describing how he has had to persevere to overcome injuries and continues to strive to achieve his dreams. He then spent the day working with each class in PE. We are very grateful to the PTA  for funding Edi to come into school.

Ben Horrock’s (Yr5) Mum, Mrs Horrock’s also came into visit us, she competed in the 2004 Para Olympics in Tennis and was part of the opening ceremony for the London Olympics in 2012. She also brought in her Olympic Torch that she kindly let us use for our Olympic Themed Sports Day.

Coventry Half Marathon – Sunday, 28th February 2016

19 children took part in the Schools’ Challenge which involved running a total of 12.1 miles prior to race day (although some children need to complete this due to the field being out of use on occasions) and, along with 4 members of staff, completed the final mile of their 13.1 mile challenge on the morning of the Half Marathon in front of thousands of spectators, crossing the same finishing line as the half marathon runners.

Each child experienced the buzz of participating in the race and the excitement as they crossed the finish line, hopefully inspiring them to continue to run and set greater fitness challenges in the future!

Thank you to parents for supporting your children in taking part in this event.

School Games (level 2) inter school football tournament – Years 3 and 4

On Monday 29 February we took part in the football tournament at Kineton High School. Our team played in 5 games in their league, with 4 wins and 1 loss and came top of their league. They played St Mary’s in the semi- finals losing 2-0. Lewis Wright scored a hat-trick in one game and Sam Brackstone as goal keeper saved some powerful shots at goal. They played superbly as a team with determination and passion and although they were disappointed not to progress further they felt justly proud. They had tremendous support from their parents who weathered the cold, which is greatly appreciated.

Team: Joseph Webb, William Card, Sam Brackstone, Daniel Wheeler, Lewis Hawkins, Charlie Stone, Charlie Poole, JeeJay Renenhan, Lewis Wright

Thank you to parents for supporting your children in taking part in this event.
